Who am I? My name is Emily, and I am from a relatively small town in Connecticut called New Hartford. I've been told on a few occasions that I am very much a free spirit. I am one of five children, I have 3 sisters and 1 brother. I've been a vegetarian for 15 years and have always loved animals. I have rescued and fostered many homeless animals, and placed them into good homes. I currently work as a pre-school teacher and also as a nanny, and enjoy working with children.
What did I learn during my research? I found my topic, robotic surgery, to be very interesting and surprisingly fun to learn about. It is crazy to think that robots are being used to help people, and are typically more beneficial then having just the surgeon perform surgery. I found it interesting that there are currently three different types of robotic surgeries. Previous to doing my research I thought there was only one type of robotic surgery. Each of these 3 methods have their own strengths and weaknesses. I was surprised to see the prices of some of these robots. The DaVinci robot, for example, cost over a million dollars! When beginning research on this topic, I wanted to find out if there were more pro's or con's to robotic surgery. I have found that the good definitely outweighs the bad, and these robotic surgeries will likely become much more common in the future.
